A college basketball thriller did well for ESPN. In other news, CBS’ NFL Today pregame show hit a viewership high, and Golf Channel had its second most-watched year.
3OT Thriller Nears High For ESPN
- The Oklahoma/Kansas college basketball game, a triple-overtime matchup of the #1 and #2 teams in the country, drew a 1.9 overnight rating on ESPN Tuesday night — the second-highest on record for the network’s Big Monday series (dates back to 2002). Only a Pittsburgh/Connecticut game in 2009 delivered a higher rating (2.0). Keep in mind the 1.9 is not a season-high; ESPN drew a 2.2 for Kentucky/Duke in the Champions Classic. (ESPN Media Zone)
CBS’ NFL Today Has Most-Watched Season Since Return
- CBS averaged 4.0 million viewers for The NFL Today pregame show during the 2015-16 season, up 5% from last year (3.8M) and the network’s highest average for the series since it resumed airing NFL coverage in 1998. The full season average for Fox NFL Sunday was not immediately available, but it averaged 5.2 million through Week 14. (CBS Sports)
Golf Channel Has Second-Best Year
- Golf Channel averaged 99,000 total day viewers during 2015, up 1% from 2014 and the network’s second-most watched year since becoming Nielsen rated in 2006. It averaged 108,000 viewers in 2013. The network aired 13 events with more than one million viewers, compared to four last year. (Golf Channel)
