With Jordan Spieth missing the cut, PGA Tour overnights dipped for the third time in four weeks.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour from Riviera earned a 2.8 overnight rating on CBS, down 7% from last year (3.0) but up 47% from coverage opposite the Olympics in 2014 (1.9). The 2.8 is the event’s third-highest final round overnight in the past seven seasons, behind last year and 2012 (4.1).
Including Saturday’s third round, six of the eight PGA Tour windows on broadcast television this year have declined. The lone exceptions were the third and final rounds of the previous week’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which were flat and up 31%, respectively.
Despite the decline, Bubba Watson‘s win ranked second for the weekend among sporting events — trailing only the Daytona 500 on FOX (6.1) and edging out the Cavaliers/Thunder NBA game on ABC (2.7).
The aforementioned third round had a 1.5 overnight, down a tick from last year’s 1.5.
