It was the top non-NFL draw of Super Bowl weekend, but the Phoenix Open could not measure up to last year.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Phoenix Open earned a 2.1 final rating and 3.3 million viewers on NBC Sunday afternoon, down 6% in viewership from last year (3.6M) and down 9% and 7%, respectively, from 2014 (2.3, 3.6M). Last year’s rating was unavailable.
The telecast, which overlapped with the Super Bowl for nearly a half-hour, ranks as the least-watched final round of the event since 2012 (3.1M).
Despite the low, Sunday’s final round was the highest rated and most-watched non-football event of the weekend — topping Saturday’s Thunder/Warriors NBA game on ESPN (2.0, 3.2M).
Third round action on Saturday had a 1.4 and 2.1 million, down 1% in viewership from last year (2.09M to 2.08M) and down 24% from ’14 (2.7M). All four PGA Tour telecasts on over-the-air TV this year have had a decline in viewership.
