Ratings and viewership fell double-digits for the championship of the ACC Tournament.
Saturday’s North Carolina/Virginia ACC Tournament final scored a 1.7 final rating and 2.8 million viewers on ESPN, down 23% in ratings and 20% in viewership from Notre Dame/North Carolina last year (2.2, 3.5M) and down 23% and 11%, respectively, from Virginia/Duke on a Sunday afternoon in 2014 (2.2, 3.2M).
The Tar Heels’ win ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched ACC title game since Miami/North Carolina three years ago (1.4, 2.2M). Going back further, however, ratings and viewership were the third-highest for the game since at least 2007.
Keep in mind Saturday’s game faced competition from the Thunder/Spurs NBA game on ABC, which had the same rating and a modestly smaller audience (2.6M). Last year’s game faced no such competition.
