Ratings and viewership bounced back, though not too high, for one of the PGA’s higher-profile stops.
Final round coverage of the PGA/WGC Cadillac Championship from Doral earned a 2.6 final rating and 4.0 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, up 18% in ratings and 22% in viewership from last year (2.2, 3.3M) but down 7% and 4%, respectively, from 2014 (2.8, 4.2M).
The double-digit increases are the third in the past four weeks for final round PGA Tour coverage, joining Pebble Beach (+39% in ratings and +35% in viewership) and the Honda Classic (+24% and +21%, respectively).
Though up from last year, the numbers are not particularly impressive for the PGA at Doral. The 2.6 is tied as the event’s fourth-lowest final round rating in at least the past 12 years — ahead of only last year, 2011 (2.3) and 2010 (1.9).
Third round action last Saturday delivered a 1.8 and 2.5 million, up 20% in ratings and 27% in viewership from last year (1.5, 2.0M) but down 5% and 2%, respectively, from 2014 (1.9, 2.6M).
