Two of the higher-profile teams in the Premier League led the way on cable last weekend. In other news, ESPN’s Orlando Magic documentary had a big increase in viewership, and the Dodgers/Giants rivalry gave FS1 a boost.
Tottenham/Man U Leads EPL on Cable
- Last Sunday’s Tottenham/Manchester United English Premier League match drew 663,000 viewers on NBCSN, the top EPL audience of the week on cable. Viewership was not immediately available for the comparable matches last year and in 2014, which aired on CNBC. Sunderland/Leicester City had 393,000 earlier in the morning (+45%). On Saturday, NBCSN scored 401,000 for West Ham/Arsenal and 325,000 for Norwich/Crystal Palace (+1%), while USA Network drew 205,000 for Southampton/Newcastle. NBC’s Manchester City/West Brom viewership was not available. (via Awful Announcing)
Big Jump For ESPN’s Orlando Magic Doc
- The premiere of ESPN’s 30 For 30 documentary This Magic Moment scored 1.5 million viewers on ESPN Thursday night, up 56% from Sole Man last year (970K) but down 18% from The Bad Boys in 2014 (1.8M). It was the most-watched sports telecast of the night. No actual Orlando Magic game has had a larger audience since March 2013, with the caveat that Orlando has had exactly one national appearance since then. (via Sports TV Ratings)
FS1 Posts Gain For Dodgers/Giants Last Weekend
- Last Saturday’s Dodgers/Giants Major League Baseball game scored 544,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1, up 13% from Royals/Angels in a later timeslot last year (481K) and up 29% from the same Giants/Dodgers matchup in 2014 (421K). (via Awful Announcing)
