Little was on the line and one match was postponed, but Premier League Championship Sunday still delivered.
EPL Championship Sunday had a combined 1.6 overnight rating on the NBC family of networks Sunday morning, up 14% from last year (1.4) and virtually even with 2014 (1.57 to 1.56). The overnight is the highest ever for the final day of the season, edging 2014. As recently as 2013, coverage had a 0.2 overnight across two Nielsen-rated networks.
As NBC noted in a Monday press release, there was not much on the line Sunday. Leicester City wrapped up the title two weeks earlier and the three clubs selected for relegation had already been determined. In addition, the Bournemouth/Manchester United match — originally slated for NBCSN — was postponed.
Swansea City/Manchester City was the top draw with a 0.6 overnight on the NBC broadcast network, even with Hull City/Manchester United last year and down a tick from Manchester City/West Ham in 2014. The match was simulcast on NBCSN after the Bournemouth/Manchester United postponement, scoring a 0.2 on that network.
On the other end of the spectrum, Everton/Norwich on Esquire Network and Watford/Sunderland on Oxygen both had a 0.01 overnight.
