ESPN has extended its lead NBA voice. In other news, Nastia Liukin will call Olympic gymnastics for NBC, and NFL Network reportedly suspended Albert Breer for the last few weeks of his contract.
ESPN Extends Breen
- ESPN has reached a multi-year contract extension with its lead NBA play-by-play voice Mike Breen, the network announced Wednesday. Breen has been with ESPN since 2003, serving as the network’s lead NBA voice since the 2004-05 season and ABC’s lead voice since Al Michaels departed for NBC in 2006. The upcoming NBA Finals will be his 11th for a national network, more than any other broadcaster. (ESPN Media Zone)
Liukin to Call Olympic Gymnastics
- Former Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin will join Al Trautwig and Tim Daggett on NBC’s coverage of the sport during the Summer Olympics. Though this will be Liukin’s first Olympic assignment as an analyst — she was a reporter during the 2014 Winter Games — she replaced Elfi Schlegel on NBC’s gymnastics team as long ago as 2013. NFL Network Reportedly Suspended Breer
- Former NFL Network host Albert Breer was suspended from the network and social media for the final six weeks of his contract, The Big Lead reported Wednesday, apparently as punishment for critical comments he made during an April radio interview. Breer, who at that point had already announced he was leaving to join Sports Illustrated‘s The MMQB website, told Boston’s Toucher and Rich show that NFL Network was a “a very limiting place” and said he had been banned from covering the Patriots.
