One of college football’s premier rivalries is headed to Fox Sports 1. In other news, the Pro Bowl has a new location and an old format, and the PGA is leaving Doral for Mexico City.
CFB: Oklahoma/Texas (October 8, Fox Sports 1)
- The annual Oklahoma/Texas college football game will air on Fox Sports 1 this season, marking the first time since 1999 that it has not been televised by ESPN/ABC. No time has been announced for the October 8 game. Fox Sports also owns rights to the Ohio State/Oklahoma game on September 17, which will air in primetime on the FOX broadcast network. NFL: AFC-NFC Pro Bowl from Orlando (January 29, 8 PM ET, ESPN)
- The NFL announced Wednesday that this season’s Pro Bowl will return to the traditional AFC vs. NFC format and relocate from Hawaii to Orlando. The league’s annual All-Star Game had been played under an ‘unconferenced’ format the past three years, which corresponded with steeper declines in the event’s already-falling ratings. The move to Orlando will allow for greater synergy with broadcast partner ESPN, which will host events during the week at parent company Disney’s theme park. (NFL Communications)
PGA: WGC-Mexico Championship (March 2-5, TBD)
- The PGA Tour has announced that the annual World Golf Championship tournament at Doral will move to Mexico City starting next year, ending the organization’s 55-year relationship with the resort. Doral has been home to the WGC event since 2007, after previously hosting a separate tournament from 1962-2006. The tournament’s spot on the calendar remains unchanged, taking place in the first week of March. (ESPN.com)
