The first part of ESPN’s much-hyped documentary on O.J. Simpson did well in the metered markets.
Part one of ESPN’s 30 For 30 documentary O.J.: Made in America earned a 2.8 overnight rating on ABC Saturday night, the highest ever for a 30 For 30 documentary premiere. The previous high was a 2.3 for You Don’t Know Bo in 2012, which aired on ESPN following the Heisman Trophy Presentation.
Head-to-head, the premiere topped coverage of Major League Baseball on FOX (2.0). For the weekend, it trailed only Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final (3.7) and the Belmont Stakes (4.3) among sports-related programming (not including Friday’s NBA game).
O.J.: Made in America was just the second 30 For 30 documentary to premiere on ABC. The previous one, Guru of Go in April 2010, was part of an ESPN Sports Saturday block that earned a 0.6 overnight.
