The second night of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials did better than the first, but was still no match for 2012.
Night two of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials scored 5.2 million viewers on NBC Monday night, down 26% from coverage on a Tuesday night four years ago (7.0M) but up 187% from night two in 2008, when coverage aired on USA Network (1.8M). Ratings were not immediately available.
The declines were steeper among adults 18-49, with the demo posting a 40% decline from 2012 (2.0 to 1.2). Airing immediately afterward, NBC’s American Ninja Warrior was a much stronger draw in the demo (1.9) and in viewership (6.3M).
On Sunday, the first night of coverage delivered 4.5 million viewers — down 36% from coverage on a Monday night in 2012 (7.0M) and down 20% from 2008, when coverage was split with track & field (5.6M). Its 1.0 in adults 18-49 marked a 50% drop from 2012 (2.0) and a 38% decline from 2008 (1.6).
