Airing coverage on tape delay, even as play took place live, CBS posted a modest decline in overnights for the PGA’s Memorial Tournament.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Memorial earned a 2.4 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 11% from last year (2.7) and even with 2014. Coverage aired on a “roughly” 20 minute tape delay, according to Golf.com, as play had been pushed up due to inclement weather.
CBS has aired final round action on tape delay before, but in those cases play had already concluded by the time the network came on air. It is not clear whether the tape delay had an impact on the numbers. A likelier factor was the play of Jordan Spieth, who tied for 57th after a fourth place finish last year.
Overnights have now declined for six of the past nine final round windows on broadcast (not including rainout coverage at New Orleans).
Saturday’s third round had a 1.6 overnight, up a tick from last year (1.5) and even with 2014.
