The Premier Boxing Champions series hit a primetime low over the weekend.
The latest primetime edition of the PBC on NBC delivered a 0.8 overnight rating on Saturday, down 20% from the network’s previous telecast in April (1.0) and down 39% from coverage in December (1.3). The 0.8 is the lowest yet for primetime PBC on a major broadcast network (nine telecasts).
The PBC was more-than-doubled by competing Major League Baseball coverage on FOX (2.0) and also trailed the finale of ESPN’s 30 For 30 miniseries O.J.: Made in America (1.3).
The 0.8 is one of the lowest metered market ratings ever for a sporting event on primetime broadcast television. There is no exhaustive list, but a Copa America match scored the same overnight on FOX earlier this month and an International Champions Cup soccer match posted a 0.6 on FOX in 2013. Outside of soccer, college football has fallen as low as a 0.9 overnight (also on FOX), IndyCar’s lone foray into primetime on ABC had a 1.1, and the NHL on NBC has gone as low as 1.0.
Since scoring a 2.5 overnight for the inaugural PBC telecast in March of last year, overnights have dropped or declined for each of NBC’s six subsequent primetime windows.
