For the fifth straight night, the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials could not measure up to 2012.
Night five of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials had 5.3 million viewers on NBC Thursday night, down 12% from coverage on a Friday night in 2012 (6.0M) and up 246% from 2008, when coverage aired on USA Network (1.5M). Ratings were not immediately available.
All five nights of the swimming trials have declined from 2012, with four of the five telecasts down by double-digits. No night of this year’s competition has earned as large an audience as the least-watched night four years ago.
Among adults 18-49, Thursday’s telecast had a 1.2 rating — down 20% from 2012 (1.5).
For the second straight night, the Olympic Trials topped its NBC lead-out program. The Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge reality show had just 3.7 million viewers and a 1.0 in the demo immediately afterward.
