NBC continues to cobble together assignments for Mike Tirico after he was blocked from Thursday Night Football.
Tirico will call the first three Notre Dame football games on NBC this season, filling in for Dan Hicks, who has PGA Tour commitments. The three-game slate includes a marquee primetime matchup against Michigan State, sandwiched between low-wattage afternoon matchups with Nevada and Duke.
Tirico will team with regular Notre Dame analyst Doug Flutie, who will also serve as his partner on a pair of Thursday Night Football games later in the year.
Widely recognized as one of the preeminent broadcasters in the industry, and coming off of ten seasons as the voice of Monday Night Football, Tirico has a grand total of five football play-by-play assignments this fall, each as a fill-in. When he joined NBC earlier this year, Tirico was expected to serve as the network’s Thursday night voice, a move that was vetoed by the NFL.
