For the second straight week, both games of the NFL on CBS doubleheader declined from last year.
The Week 3 NFL national window, featuring Steelers/Eagles in 52% of markets, had 22.0 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon — down 1% from coverage featuring Bears/Seahawks last year (22.1M) and down 19% from a Broncos/Seahawks Super Bowl rematch in 2014 (27.3M). Ratings dropped 2% from last year (12.91 to 12.65).
Though down just barely from last year, Sunday’s telecast ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched Week 3 national window since 2009 — when coverage featuring Steelers/Bengals had a 10.9 and 18.2 million.
Earlier in the day, regional action pulled an 8.0 and 13.1 million — down 13% in ratings and viewership from last year (9.2, 15.1M) and down 8% and 10%, respectively, from 2014 (8.7, 14.5M).
Including Thursday Night Football, six of the first seven NFL telecasts on CBS this season have posted declines in ratings and viewership — with five of those six hitting multi-year lows. The lone exception was Texans/Patriots this past Thursday night.
