From the no surprise department, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series suffered in a Sunday morning timeslot last weekend. In other news, the F1 Malaysian GP sank from last year and the NHRA hit a season-low.
PPD to Sunday Morning, Xfinity Series Low on CNBC
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Dover, which was postponed from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning due to rain, had a 0.3 final rating and 387,000 viewers on CNBC. As one would expect, it was the least-watched race of the season — though the postponement provides an obvious caveat. Not helping matters was unusual Sunday morning competition from live NFL action on CBS (7.7M).
Steep Drop For F1 Malaysian GP
- Formula 1 racing from Malaysia had 231,000 viewers on NBCSN in the overnight hours Sunday morning, down 40% from last year (384K) and down 7% from 2014 (248K), when the race took place in March. Of the 14 races this season that can be compared to last year, it was the ninth to post a decline.
NHRA Continues to Suffer Opposite NFL
- Live NHRA racing from Reading (PA) had 241,000 viewers on Fox Sports 1 last Sunday afternoon, down 44% from last year (430K) and down 53% from 2014, when coverage was tape delayed on ESPN2. Excluding qualifying windows, it was the least-watched NHRA telecast of the season. The three least-watched races have come in as many weeks, with each airing live opposite the NFL.
