It was one of the smaller television audiences in recent NFL history, but Sunday’s London game on NFL Network easily topped last year’s live stream.
The Week 7 Giants/Rams NFL International Series game from London had 3.7 million viewers on NFL Network Sunday morning, up 125% from live stream coverage of Bills/Jaguars on Yahoo! last year, which averaged 1.6 million viewers per minute in the United States (2.4 million worldwide). The game had a 2.35 rating; there was no comparable figure released last year.
By television standards, the Giants’ win did quite poorly. It was the least-watched NFL game on any network since Chargers/Raiders on NFL Network in 2013, a game that was rescheduled to 11 PM ET on a Sunday night and had 2.5 million viewers.
Outside of that anomalous circumstance, there has not been a lesser watched NFL game in seven years — since Dolphins/Panthers on NFL Network in 2009 (3.0M).
As should be expected, given the previous games each aired on a broadcast network, Giants/Rams was also the lowest rated and least-watched of the NFL’s early morning London windows (seven telecasts). The previous low was set by Colts/Jaguars three weeks earlier, which had a 4.8 and 7.7 million on CBS.
