In a bad season for both teams, Stanford/Notre Dame was a middling draw in primetime.
Saturday’s primetime Stanford/Notre Dame college football game scored a 1.8 final rating and 2.9 million viewers on NBC, up a tick in ratings and 9% in viewership from Navy/Notre Dame last year (1.7, 2.6M) but down 18% and 16%, respectively, from Stanford/Notre Dame in 2014 (2.2, 3.4M), both of which aired in the afternoon.
The Cardinal’s win ranks as the lowest rated and least-watched primetime Notre Dame telecast on NBC since a game against Maryland in 2011 (1.3, 2.1M). That does not include last year’s Boston College/Notre Dame game, which aired on NBCSN (1.1, 2.0M).
Head-to-head, Stanford/Notre Dame was trounced by Ohio State/Wisconsin on ABC (5.2, 9.0M) — no surprise given that matchup was an overtime game between top ten teams. It also lost to Game 1 of the MLB NLCS on FOX (3.2, 5.9M),
