One of the better finishes in recent college football history was not enough to lift the SEC on CBS.
Georgia/Tennessee earned a 2.5 final rating and 4.2 million viewers on the latest edition of the SEC on CBS, down 40% in ratings and viewership from Alabama/Georgia last year (4.2, 7.0M) and down 7% and 4%, respectively, from Arkansas/Texas A&M in 2014 (2.7, 4.4M).
The Volunteers’ Hail Mary win ranks as the lowest rated game between the rivals since their 2011 meeting on ESPN2 (1.4, 2.4M). Last year’s meeting had a 3.0 and 4.9 million on CBS, the 2014 game had a 3.1 and 4.7 million on ESPN, and the 2013 matchup had a 3.5 and 5.6 million on CBS.
Despite the lower numbers, the Volunteers’ Hail Mary win ranked third for the weekend among college football games, behind only a pair of Top 10 matchups — Louisville/Clemson (5.5, 9.3M) and Wisconsin/Michigan (4.3, 6.9M), both on ABC.
