In a rare occurrence, Fox Sports 1 topped the one million mark for college football.
Saturday’s Texas/Texas Tech college football game delivered 1.1 million viewers on FS1, up 48% from Texas Tech/West Virginia last year (710K) and up 38% from Oklahoma/Iowa State in 2014 (763K). Ratings increased 30% year-over-year (from 0.50 to 0.65).
The Longhorns’ win scored the fourth-largest college football audience on FS1 this season and was just the fifth of the network’s games to top the one million mark. Texas also played in the top game on FS1 this season, the annual rivalry matchup with Oklahoma (2.8M).
As one would expect, big numbers for FS1 are not much to brag about overall. Texas/Texas Tech trailed all four games on ESPN Saturday and all seven games on a broadcast network (ABC, CBS or FOX).
Later in the day, FS1 earned a 0.4 final rating and 592,000 viewers for Oregon State/Stanford — up a tick in ratings and 54% in viewership from Arizona State/Washington State last year (0.3, 384K) and up 100% and 84%, respectively, from Kansas/Baylor in 2014 (0.2, 322K).
Over on the FOX broadcast network, TCU/Baylor had a 0.9 and 1.4 million Saturday afternoon — down 44% in ratings and 43% in viewership from TCU/Oklahoma State last year (1.6, 2.4M). There was no comparable daytime window in 2014.
