With Alabama making mince meat of the Gators, the SEC Championship was less of a draw for CBS.
The Alabama/Florida SEC Championship Game had a 7.0 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 16% from the same matchup last year (8.3), down 9% from Alabama/Missouri in 2014 (7.7) and the lowest overnight for the SEC title game since Auburn/South Carolina in 2010 (6.3). The 7.0 is also the lowest for an SEC title game that featured Alabama since 1999 (6.6).
The Tide’s blowout win, which peaked at an 8.3 from 5-5:30 PM ET, delivered the highest overnight of conference championship weekend according to CBS. Keep in mind it also faced the least competition of the Power 5 title games.
For the season, the 7.0 overnight tied the second-highest mark on any network — matching Notre Dame/Texas on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and behind only Michigan/Ohio State the previous week (10.4).
