Like the AFC Championship that followed, the NFC title game delivered mixed results for FOX.
Packers/Falcons scored a 27.4 overnight rating in Sunday’s NFC Championship on FOX, down 14% from last year’s Patriots/Broncos AFC Championship on CBS (31.8), down 6% from Packers/Seahawks on FOX in 2015 (29.1) and the lowest early conference championship window since the Falcons’ previous appearance in 2013 (26.1).
Compared to last year’s Cardinals/Panthers NFC Championship, which aired in the primetime window, overnights increased 2% from a 26.8. Going back further, the 27.4 is the third-lowest for the NFC title game since 2009, ahead of last year and 2013.
The Falcons’ win trailed the primetime Steelers/Patriots game on CBS (27.6), marking the first time in three years that the early conference championship window was not the highest rated of the day. That is less than an unusual occurrence than a return to the norm.
