Running into the Super Bowl for a second straight year, the PGA Tour’s Phoenix Open scored its smallest final round audience in five years.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Phoenix Open earned a 1.9 final rating and 3.1 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 10% in ratings and 6% in viewership from last year (2.1, 3.3M) and the least-watched final round of the tournament since 2012 (3.13M to 3.07M).
Since hitting 4.3 million viewers for Phil Mickelson‘s win in 2013, final round coverage has declined in each subsequent year.
As was the case last year, Sunday’s telecast ran into the start of the Super Bowl, concluding about a half-hour after the Patriots/Falcons game started.
Despite the lower numbers, it was the highest rated and most-watched non-NFL sports program last weekend.
On Saturday, third round action scored a 1.5 and 2.3 million viewers — up 7% in ratings and 9% in viewership from last year (1.4, 2.1M) and the most-watched third round of the tournament since 2014 (2.7M).
