It did not seem likely a few years ago, when he was as reviled as any athlete in sports, but Alex Rodriguez is becoming a television star.
Rodriguez has reached a deal with ABC News to serve as a contributor to Good Morning America, World News Tonight and Nightline, according to multiple reports Sunday. He will continue in his current role as a game and studio MLB analyst for Fox Sports.
According to sources cited by the New York Post, Rodriguez will appear on ABC News programming about once a month and cover both sports and general topics.
Rodriguez is following a path previously forged by Fox Sports colleague Michael Strahan, who joined ABC News in 2014 and is now a full-time member of the Good Morning America cast. Even while rising up the ranks at ABC, Strahan has remained in his role on Fox NFL Sunday.
Like Strahan, Rodriguez is not expected to make any appearances on ABC’s corporate sibling ESPN.
