After a rough start, PGA Tour ratings are starting to balance out, albeit with a caveat.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Canadian Open earned a 1.5 final rating and 2.2 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, up a tick in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (1.4, 2.1M) but down 12% and 10% respectively from 2015 (1.7, 2.5M).
Not counting lead-in coverage on Golf Channel, Jhonattan Vegas‘ playoff win marked the fourth time in eight weeks that Sunday PGA ratings have increased over last year. That comes with a caveat — two of those increases were the result of Olympic-fueled lows last year.
Despite the increase, the 1.5 rating is the second-lowest for final round coverage since 2012 (0.8).
Third round action on Saturday had a 1.0 (-9%) and 1.4 million (-6%). Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.27 and 404,000 on Saturday and a 0.35 and 500,000 on Sunday.
