The first CBS doubleheader of the season was about on par with last year.
The Week 3 NFL national window, featuring Bengals-Packers in 80% of markets, had a 12.2 rating and 21.3 million viewers on CBS Sunday — down 3% in both measures from last year (12.6, 22.0M) and down 5% and 4% respectively from 2015 (12.9, 22.1M). Last year’s window featured Steelers-Eagles and the 2015 telecast Bears-Seahawks.
Though down only slightly from last year, it was the lowest rated and least-watched Week 3 national window since 2009 — which also featured the Bengals (10.9, 18.2M).
Earlier in the day, regional action pulled an 8.4 and 14.4 million — up 5% in ratings and 10% in viewership from last year (8.0, 13.1M) but down 9% and 4% respectively from 2015 (9.2, 15.1M).
The early window delivered its top performance of the young season. It had a 7.9 rating and 13.5 million the previous week and a 6.6 and 11.3 million in Week 1, both on FOX.
