Premier League viewership was mostly up last weekend, Formula 1 posted a modest bump at Singapore, and NASCAR’s Xfinity Series tanked at Chicagoland.
EPL Mostly Up Last Weekend
Last Saturday’s Tottenham-Swansea English Premier League match drew a 0.46 rating and 621,000 viewers on NBC, up 18% in ratings and 12% in viewership from Everton-Middlesbrough last year (0.39, 553K) but down 38% and 50% respectively from Manchester United-Liverpool in 2015 (0.74, 1.2M). It was the least-watched match on broadcast TV this season. On Sunday, Manchester United-Everton scored a 0.38 (+46%) and 534,000 (+24%) on NBCSN and Chelsea-Arsenal a 0.23 (+53%) and 328,000 (+40%) on CNBC. Rounding out the weekend, NBCSN had 335,000 (-16%) for Watford-Manchester City and 209,000 for Crystal Palace-Southampton on Saturday and 100,000 for Bournemouth-Brighton & Hove last Friday (-66%).
F1 Singapore Viewership Up Slightly
The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix had a 0.28 rating and 450,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday, flat in ratings and up 7% in viewership from last year (0.28, 419K) but down 15% and 12% respectively from 2015 (0.33, 510K). Of the 13 F1 windows that can be compared to last year, ten have increased.
Move to Cable Sinks NASCAR at Chicagoland
NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Chicagoland had a 0.5 rating and 807,000 viewers on NBCSN last Saturday, down 55% in ratings and 52% in viewership from last year on the NBC broadcast network (1.1, 1.7M) and down 29% and 27% respectively from 2015 (0.7, 1.1M). It topped only the previous week’s race at Richmond (805K) as the series’ least-watched race this season.
