With the caveat that last year’s game was hampered by an early start, World Series Game 2 ratings pulled nearly even in the metered markets.
Wednesday’s Astros-Dodgers World Series Game 2 earned an 11.0 overnight rating on FOX, down 3% from Cubs-Indians last year, which started an hour earlier to avoid rain (11.3), and up 18% from Mets-Royals in 2015 (9.3).
The 11.0 is the second-highest for Game 2 of the World Series since Phillies-Yankees in 2009 (13.6). Outside of last year, no other World Series Game 2 has exceeded a 10.0 overnight over that span.
Excluding Cubs-Indians last year, the 11.0 is the highest for a non-clinching World Series game since Rangers-Cardinals Game 6 in 2011 (13.8).
The Astros’ four-hour, 19 minute extra inning win topped Tuesday’s two-hour, 28 minute Game 1 by 8%.
Game 2 delivered a 30.0 rating in Houston, off 27% from the Astros’ previous World Series Game 2 against the White Sox in 2005 (41.3). In Los Angeles, Game 2 had a 27.5 — off 8% from the market’s previous World Series Game 2, Giants-Angels in 2002 (29.8). The Kings’ Stanley Cup Final Game 2 in 2014 had an 8.9 and the Lakers’ NBA Finals Game 2 in 2010 had a 25.1.
