SEC ratings just keep dropping on CBS.
LSU-Alabama scored a 3.9 rating and 6.7 million viewers on the SEC on CBS last Saturday night — down a third in ratings and 35% in viewership from last year (5.8, 10.4M) and down 39% in both measures from 2015 (6.4, 11.1M).
The Tide’s win marked the lowest rated game between the rivals since 2006 on ESPN (2.0) and the least-watched since 2007 on CBS (6.3M).
It was also the lowest rated primetime SEC game on CBS since Florida-Tennessee in 2006 (3.7) and the least-watched since LSU-Florida in 2008 (6.0M).
Despite the declines, Saturday’s game still ranks as the highest rated and most-watched on CBS this season. The previous highs were a 3.2 and 5.1 million for Florida-Tennessee in week three.
Across all networks, it delivered the sixth-largest audience of the season. Alabama’s opener against Florida State holds the top spot (12.3M), followed by Penn State-Ohio State in week nine (9.9M), Oklahoma-Ohio State in week two (8.1M), Michigan-Florida in week one (7.7M) and Michigan-Penn State in week eight (7.0M).
Shifting to the afternoon, South Carolina-Georgia earned a 2.1 and 3.5 million — down 19% in ratings and 18% in viewership from Florida-Arkansas last year (2.6, 4.3M) but up a tick and 17% respectively from Arkansas-Mississippi in 2015 (2.0, 3.0M).
Ratings and viewership have declined for all ten SEC on CBS windows this season, seven by double-digits.
