Disney Could Sell RSNs to Multiple Parties

Disney is expected to auction the 22 Fox Sports regional sports networks to multiple bidders once its acquisition of most 21st Century Fox assets is complete, CNBC reported Tuesday. Fox stakeholders will vote on the deal July 27 and assuming the sale is approved, Disney will have 90 days to sell off the RSNs per the terms it agreed to with the justice department.

The CNBC report floated AT&T and Charter among possible contenders, while MSG CEO James Dolan expressed tepid interest when asked about the RSNs by NBC News. [CNBC via Sports Business Daily 7.3; NBC News 7.5]

Woods, Mickelson, Pursuing $10M Exhibition

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are in negotiations to stage a winner-take-all exhibition match for $10 million, Golf.com reported Friday. Mickelson said the plan was originally to have the match on July 3, but several details — including television rights — could not be worked out in time.

Woods previously participated in a series of primetime golf exhibitions from 1999-2005, including a 2005 event that also included Mickelson. [Golf.com 7.5, Golf Digest 7.6]

LeBatard, Cowherd, Re-Up

ESPN late last month announced a four-year contract extension with radio and television host Dan Le Batard. Le Batard will continue hosting his eponymous radio show and his daily afternoon ESPN talk show Highly Questionable and add a new responsibility — six “longform interviews” per year.

In related news, Fox Sports has reportedly reached a four-year contract extension with radio and television host Colin Cowherd. That news was reported by the New York Post last month and has not been officially announced. [ESPN PR 6.28; NYP 6.26]
