NASCAR Xfinity Down at Daytona
Last Friday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Daytona earned a 0.7 rating and 1.12 million viewers on NBCSN, down 21% in viewership from the last time it was run as scheduled, 2016 (1.41M). Last year’s race was postponed to a Saturday afternoon and aired on CNBC, earning a 0.5 and 829,000.
F1 British GP Gets ESPN Bump
The Formula 1 British Grand Prix had a 0.42 rating and 620,000 viewers on ESPN Sunday morning, up 56% in ratings and 37% in viewership from last year on CNBC (0.27, 452K) and up 83% and 93% respectively from 2016 on NBCSN (0.23, 322K). It was the second-largest F1 audience on cable in three years (Bahrain: 630K).
IndyCar Down Against World Cup
IndyCar Series racing from Iowa scored a 0.31 rating and 452,000 viewers on NBCSN Sunday afternoon, down 16% in ratings and 15% in viewership from last year, when coverage aired in a later timeslot and did not face the World Cup (0.37, 534K). It was the smallest audience for the race since 2014 (444K).
No NASCAR Lead-in = Big Drop For NHRA
Live NHRA eliminations from New England earned a 0.26 rating and 374,000 viewers on FS1 Sunday, down 64% in ratings and 68% in viewership from last year, when coverage aired on tape delay immediately following a NASCAR Cup Series race (0.7, 1.2M). Versus the same weekend last year, ratings fell 24% and viewership 30% from a 0.34 and 534,000 for Chicago. Keep in mind that coverage faced the World Cup this year.
