Senior British Open ratings hit a nine-year high; the Tour de France ended on a positive note; also, last week’s racing results.
Senior British Open Hits High
Coverage of the Senior British Open averaged a 0.8 rating and 1.11 million viewers on NBC last weekend, marking the tournament’s highest weekend average since 2009.
Last Sunday’s final round delivered a 0.8 and 1.24 million, up a tick in ratings and 29% in viewership from last year (0.7, 964K). Miguel Ángel Jiménez‘ win, which peaked at a 1.0 and 1.45 million from 1:30-1:45 PM ET, was the most-watched round of the tournament since 2009 and the most-watched round of any PGA Champions Tour event since 2010 (U.S. Senior Open: 1.29M).
Third round coverage last Saturday had a 0.7 and 980,000, marking the most-watched third round of the tournament since 2006 (1.12M).
Tour de France Ends With Bump
The final stage of the Tour de France had a 0.30 rating and 485,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday, up 7% in ratings and 11% in viewership from last year (0.28, 435K) but down 9% and 1% respectively from 2016 (0.33, 489K). Averages for the full tournament were not immediately available.
Channel Switch Sinks Xfinity Series, Boosts NHRA
NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Iowa delivered a 0.5 rating and 815,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday, down 55% in ratings and 51% in viewership from last year on NBC (1.1, 1.7M) and down 17% and 23% respectively from 2016 on NBCSN (0.6, 1.05M).
In other action, NHRA eliminations from Sonoma (Ca.) scored a 0.49 and 750,000 on FOX Sunday afternoon — up 113% in ratings and 107% in viewership from last year on FS1 (0.23, 363K) but down 25% in both measures from 2016 on FOX (0.65, 998K).
Later Sunday, IndyCar from Mid-Ohio had a 0.39 and 644,000 on NBCSN, flat in ratings and up 11% in viewership from last year (0.39, 644K) but down 29% and 21% respectively from 2016 (0.55, 811K).
Wrapping up the racing action, the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix pulled a 0.30 and 433,000 (-9%) on ESPN2.
