Yahoo! Sports’ Jeff Passan is reportedly making the jump to ESPN. In other news, Candace Parker is joining Turner Sports full-time, Richard Jefferson has apparently joined ESPN, and the Detroit Tigers’ broadcast team is not returning after last month’s altercation.
Passan Reportedly Jumping From Yahoo! to ESPN
The New York Post reported Thursday that ESPN is expected to hire Yahoo! Sports writer Jeff Passan as a Major League Baseball insider. According to the report, Passan would serve the same role on baseball that ESPN reporters Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski do on the NFL and NBA, respectively.
Passan would begin his new role sometime next year. [NYP 10.11]
Parker Joining Turner Full-Time
Turner Sports announced Wednesday that it has hired WNBA Sparks F Candace Parker as a full-time NBA and college basketball analyst. Parker will serve as a NBA studio analyst for TNT and NBA TV, making her debut on October 21. She will also have a role on CBS and Turner Sports coverage of the NCAA Tournament. She served as a guest studio analyst in Turner’s Atlanta studios last year. [Turner Sports 10.10]
Jefferson on ESPN’s Roster
ESPN has apparently hired former NBA F Richard Jefferson as an NBA analyst. The network did not make an official announcement, but Jefferson was listed in a Thursday press release as one of the analysts set to contribute to the network during the opening week of the season. [ESPN PR 10.11]
Tigers’ Beefing Broadcasters Will Not Return
The Detroit Tigers will not bring back the broadcast team of play-by-play voice Mario Impemba and analyst Rod Allen, the Detroit Free-Press reported Tuesday. Impemba and Allen had not been on air since an off-air physical confrontation in early September. [Detroit Free-Press 10.9]
