The latest USMNT Gold Cup match was a mixed bag on UniMas and FS1. Also: a steep decline for the Copa America group stage; a three-year low for the PGA Tour at Hartford; an increase for the Women’s PGA Championship.
USMNT-Panama down on UniMas, up on FS1
Wednesday’s United States-Panama CONCACAF Gold Cup match had a 0.6 rating and 1.14 million viewers on UniMas and a 0.54 and 893,000 on FS1. Versus the third U.S. group stage match in 2017, against Nicaragua on a Saturday night, the Spanish-language audience declined 2% from (1.12M), but the English-language audience increased 36% (from 657K). Keep in mind the 2017 match aired on FXX.
Copa America group stage down on Telemundo
The Copa America group stage averaged 1.0 million viewers on the Telemundo family of networks (including streaming), down 62% from the 2016 tournament, which aired on the Univision networks (2.6M).
Thursday’s Brazil-Paraguay Copa America quarterfinal had a 0.35 rating and 668,000 viewers on Universo, unsurprisingly down 78% in ratings and 79% in viewership from the first quarterfinal of the 2016 tournament, United States-Ecuador on UniMas (1.6, 3.14M).
PGA Tour Hartford ratings down
Last Sunday’s final round of the PGA Tour Hartford Open earned a 1.4 rating and 2.17 million viewers on CBS, down 30% in both measures from last year (2.0, 3.09M), and down 39% and 38% respectively from 2017 (2.3, 3.50M). It was the lowest rated and least-watched final round of the tournament since 2016 (0.9, 1.42M).
Third round action had a 1.1 (-21%) and 1.53 million (-28%). Lead-in coverage on Golf Channel had a 0.36 (-27%) and 527,000 (-26%) on Saturday and a 0.42 (-19%) and 661,000 (-15%).
Women’s PGA Championship up from last year
The final round of the Women’s PGA Championship had a 0.51 rating and 718,000 viewers on NBC, up 16% in ratings and 14% in viewership from last year (0.44, 630K), but down 15% in both measures from 2017 (0.6, 840K). The tournament narrowly trailed the final round of the U.S. Women’s Open earlier this month (0.52, 728K).
Third round coverage had a 0.38 (-5%) and 509,000 (-9%) on NBC Saturday.
