If no match for last year’s Chiefs-Rams thriller, ratings held up well for Kansas City against L.A.’s other team.
Monday Night Football (Chiefs-Chargers from Mexico City) averaged a 7.6 rating and 12.57 million viewers on ESPN last night, down 22% in ratings and 24% in viewership from last year (Chiefs-Rams: 9.7, 16.61M) but up 19% and 67% respectively from 2017 (Falcons-Seahawks: 6.4, 10.82M).
The Chiefs’ win, which peaked with 14.82 million viewers from 9:30-9:45 PM ET, was the third-straight MNF game to exceed 12 million viewers — the series’ longest streak since Weeks 5-8 of the 2015 season.
Including a Spanish-language audience of 109,000 on ESPN Deportes, the game averaged 12.68 million.
MNF is now averaging 12.60 million viewers for the season (+6%).
ESPN’s telecast drew a 16.8 rating in Kansas City and a 7.0 in Los Angeles. Coverage was simulcast on local ABC affiliates in both markets, averaging a 32.8 on KMBC in Kansas City and a 5.6 on KABC in Los Angeles. The combined 49.6 rating in K.C. trails only Chiefs-Rams last year (52.8) as the market’s highest for MNF on record.
San Diego led all markets on ESPN with a 17.2 rating, followed by Kansas City. Las Vegas was third (11.7), Denver fourth (11.6) and Seattle-Tacoma fifth (11.1).
Monday’s game drew a 4.0 rating in adults 18-49 (-27%) and a 3.2 in adults 18-34 (-29%).
