The Phillies’ second-straight Division Series victory over the Braves was a considerably stronger draw than the first.
Thursday’s Braves-Phillies National League Division Series Game 4 averaged a 3.0 rating and 5.80 million viewers across TBS (2.8, 5.34M) and TruTV (0.26, 454K), marking the largest audience for a Division Series Game 4 since Red Sox-Yankees in 2018 (7.15M) and the most-watched LDS game overall since Dodgers-Giants Game 5 two years ago.
Viewership more-than-doubled last year’s clinching Game 4 between the teams, which aired in a Saturday afternoon window on FS1 (2.79M). (Viewership via the Max streaming service is included in the Nielsen figures. Including the TBS and TruTV digital platforms, which are not included in the Nielsen number, the game averaged 5.9 million.)
Game 3 the previous day averaged 4.02 million (TBS: 3.63M; truTV: 384K), up 38% from last year on a Friday afternoon (2.91M). The full, four-game series averaged 4.48 million — up 43% from last year’s series of the same length (3.13M).
The complete MLB Division Series averaged 3.13 million viewers, down 8% from last year (3.40M). Keep in mind this year marked the first time since 2018 that none of the LDS went to a fifth and deciding game.
Phillies-Braves delivered four of the five largest audiences of the LDS, the lone exception being Orioles-Rangers Game 3 on Tuesday — a primetime game on broadcast television. Including the Wild Card Series, the Phillies have played in six of the eight most-watched games this postseason.
As for the other series, the Diamondbacks’ Game 3 clincher over the Dodgers averaged a series-high 3.26 million Wednesday night (TBS: 2.70M; truTV: 561K). The full series averaged 2.66 million, down 16% from the Dodgers’ four-game LDS against the Padres last year (3.18M).
Also Wednesday, Astros-Twins concluded with 2.70 million on FS1. The full series averaged 2.55 million, down 17% from the Houston’s sweep of the Mariners a year ago (3.06M).
