After hitting an all-time low in Game 2, World Series viewership went even lower in Game 3.
Monday’s Game 3 of the World Series (Rangers-Diamondbacks) averaged a 4.2 rating and 8.13 million viewers on FOX, marking the least-watched World Series game on record. The previous low was 8.15 million for Game 2 on Saturday night. Game 2 remains the lowest rated with a 4.0.
Rangers-Diamondbacks now accounts for the two lowest rated and least-watched World Series games and three of the bottom four, with Game 1 placing fourth (9.17M). Prior to this year, Dodgers-Rays in the 2020 “bubble” accounted for the four smallest World Series audiences.
Least-watched World Series games
The Rangers’ win aired directly opposite NFL Monday Night Football on ABC, ESPN and ESPN Deportes (Raiders-Lions), which averaged an 8.5 rating and 15.21 million viewers. Due to a Monday rainout, last year’s World Series aired opposite the far-less-formidable Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime and actually won the head-to-head.
Ratings declined 32% and viewership 27% from last year’s Tuesday night Game 3 (Astros-Phillies: 6.2, 11.16M). Each game of the Fall Classic has declined double-digits, with the margins growing steeper by the game.
Game 3 averaged a 1.6 rating in adults 18-49, a 1.1 in 18-34 and a 2.0 in 25-54, down 3% in all three demographics from last year (2.6, 1.8 and 3.25 respectively). Ratings in each demo were the second-lowest on record for a World Series game, ahead of only Game 2.
