In addition to confirming it will play on Christmas Day this season, the NFL announced Tuesday that its Week 1 game from Brazil will be a Peacock exclusive.
The Week 1 NFL International Series game from Brazil — which is scheduled for the night after the season-opening Kickoff Game — will air exclusively on Peacock, the league announced Tuesday. The game, which will feature the Philadelphia Eagles as the home team, will be the third NFL exclusive on Peacock, following its Week 16 and Wild Card weekend games last year.
Peacock will end up airing the first two games of the NFL season, as the streamer will have simulcast coverage of the previous night’s Kickoff Game on NBC. Including the usual Sunday night game, which will also be simulcast on Peacock, there will be three NBC-produced games in Week 1.
As part of the NFL media rights deals that were struck in 2021, Peacock has rights to an exclusive regular season game each year from 2023-28. The Brazil game would obviously fulfill that obligation, meaning that one should not expect any other games to air on Peacock next season.
The streamer will not have a Wild Card game this season, as Amazon Prime has acquired rights to the one Wild Card game not already claimed by the traditional networks. That news was reported months ago but officially announced Tuesday by the NFL.
As previously noted, the NFL also made headlines Tuesday for announcing plans to schedule games on Christmas Day this season, despite the holiday falling on a Wednesday.
