An NBA doubleheader topped a routine Tuesday night of sports viewership.
Tuesday’s Mavericks-Warriors NBA regular season game averaged 1.38 million viewers on TNT, preceded by Thunder-Sixers at 1.09 million (979K on TNT and 111K on truTV) — the two largest sports audiences of the day. Both games outdrew the lone TNT game on the same night last year, Celtics-Sixers (1.03M).
TNT coverage was blacked out in the Bay Area, but exclusive in Dallas, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia.
Ranking not far behind, the Utah-Indiana State NIT semifinal averaged 1.03 million on ESPN — the largest NIT audience since the 2017 final and up 19% from Wisconsin-North Texas last year (868K). The top three NIT games since ’17 have occurred this year.
In the other semifinal, ESPN2 averaged just 312,000 for Georgia-Seton Hall, up 3% from Utah Valley-UAB a year ago (303K).
In other basketball action, the annual high school All-American boys game averaged 543,000 on ESPN (-4%) and the girls game drew 112,000 on ESPN2 earlier in the night (-8%).
Beyond the hardwood, TBS averaged 396,000 for Reds-Phillies and 312,000 for Giants-Dodgers in the season debut of its Major League Baseball coverage — both down from the network’s Yankees-Phillies opener last season (401K). Earlier in the day, MLB Network drew 236,000 for a Twins-Brewers game.
