FOX scored strong numbers for a pair of UEFA Euro round of 16 matches Sunday afternoon.
FOX averaged 2.87 million viewers for Spain-Georgia and 2.54 million for England-Slovakia in a UEFA Euro 2024 round of 16 doubleheader Sunday, marking the two largest audiences on record for a Euro round of 16 match. (Keep in mind the round of 16 has only existed in the past three editions of the tournament.)
Spain’s win, which peaked with 3.33 million in the 4:15 PM ET quarter-hour, increased 19% from Belgium-Portugal on ABC three years ago (2.41M). Miami-Ft. Lauderdale led all markets with a 3.4 rating and 14 share, followed by San Diego and Kansas City at a 2.8 each.
England’s win, which peaked with 3.29 million in the 2:15 quarter-hour, increased 69% from Netherlands-Czech Republic on ESPN in ’21 (1.50M). Kansas City and San Diego were the top markets at a 2.2 rating, followed by Washington DC at a 2.1.
In other round of 16 action, Germany-Denmark averaged 2.20 million on FOX Saturday — up 13% from Italy-Austria on ABC in ’21 (1.95M) — and Switzerland-Italy drew 1.54 million on FS1 (+15%). The first four round of 16 matches averaged 2.31 million, up 27% from the equivalent matches in ’21 (1.81M).
The full Euro 2024 is averaging 1.19 million across FOX and FS1 — up 31% from the same point in 2021 (912K) and up 71% from 2016 (697K). Keep in mind that the Fox networks have carried five fewer matches than ESPN/ABC did in 2021, having sublicensed some lower rated early morning windows to the streaming service Fubo (which is not Nielsen-rated).
Shifting to Copa America, coverage was averaging 1.02 million across FOX, FS1 and FS2 through Sunday — up nearly 400 percent from the same point in 2021 (216K) and up 34% from 2016 (761K). Mexico-Ecuador topped the weekend slate with 1.77 million on FOX Sunday, followed by Argentina-Peru on FS1 Saturday at 900,000.
