Lionel Messi and Inter Miami are thus far the stars of the FIFA Club World Cup on TNT Sports.
Coverage of the FIFA Club World Cup has averaged 360,000 viewers on the TNT Sports networks through Wednesday, with that figure rising to 409,000 excluding weekday afternoon matches. (Keep in mind matches are also airing on Spanish-language television and that English-language coverage is also free to watch on DAZN.)
Inter Miami of MLS has played in three of the seven most-watched matches on TNT Sports — more than any other club — with Monday’s match against Palmeiras leading the way with 676,000 on TNT and truTV.
The match, which peaked with 875,000 viewers, delivered the largest audience for Inter Miami on English-language TV since Messi joined the club in 2023. (A handful of Inter Miami matches on Spanish-language TV did top the million viewer mark during Messi’s debut season.)
Inter Miami’s opener against Al Ahly on June 14 ranks fifth (371K) and their match against FC Porto on June 19 — a weekday afternoon start — seventh (349K).
Outside of Inter Miami, the top match on TNT Sports was Bayern Munich against Boca Juniors on Friday with 468,000, followed by Real Madrid-CF Pachuca on Sunday (391K) and Paris Saint-Germain against Atletico Madrid on June 15 (378K).
The Club World Cup, which used to take place annually from 2005-23, has shifted to a quadrennial format starting this year and is taking place in the United States for the first time. TNT Sports is carrying the event as part of a sublicensing deal with the primary English-language rights partner DAZN.
In other summer soccer tournament viewership, Sunday’s United States-Haiti Concacaf Gold Cup match averaged 1.2 million viewers on FOX — up 10% from the equivalent match two years ago (USMNT-Trinidad & Tobago: 1.1M).
