Recent sports TV ratings news, including the first ever live EPL telecast on U.S. broadcast television, another viewership milestone for the Clippers on NBA TV, and a big increase for Notre Dame’s upset victory over Syracuse.
- 1.3 Million Viewers For Live EPL Match on FOX: FOX earned a 0.8 final rating and 1.3 million viewers for Sunday’s Manchester United/Arsenal English Premier League match, the first live EPL telecast ever on U.S. broadcast television. By comparison, the first three EPL telecasts on FOX this season — all of which aired on tape delay — earned at least a 1.0 rating and 1.6 million viewers. (Associated Press via ESPN.com)
- Clippers Deliver Once Again For NBA TV: Wednesday’s Clippers/Lakers NBA regular season game drew a 0.5 U.S. rating and 686,000 viewers on NBA TV, the third-most viewed regular season game ever on the network. The top two regular season games also involved the Clippers — Lakers/Clippers on January 14 (756K) and Bulls/Clippers on December 30 (722K). The Clippers were also a strong draw in the preseason, as their two games against the Lakers were the most-viewed preseason games ever on NBA TV. Keep in mind NBA TV is in its second season as a Nielsen-rated network. (Turner Sports)
- Big Increase For Notre Dame’s Upset of Syracuse: ESPN drew a 1.6 U.S. rating and 2.490 million viewers for Saturday’s #1 Syracuse/Notre Dame college basketball game, up 46% in ratings and 41% in viewership from last year’s comparable telecast (UK/SC: 1.1, 1.771M). Later in the night, the #21 Louisville/Pittsburgh game earned a 0.9 and 1.254 million, down 10% and 21%, respectively, from last year (MSU/PUR: 1.0, 1.581M). (The Voice of TV)
