- Rick Sutcliffe: The ESPN baseball analyst has become just the latest sports media personality to be diagnosed with cancer. Sutcliffe has “treatable and curable form of colon cancer“, and hopes to “make a healthy comeback later this year.” There is no word on whether Sutcliffe will be participating in ESPN’s baseball coverage to start the season. Last December, fellow ESPN colleague Stuart Scott and Fox Sports’ Jeanne Zelasko were also diagnosed with cancer.
- Mike Greenberg: The less athletic half of the Mike and Mike in the Morning duo is returning to his primetime network television job. Greenberg will continue hosting the game show Duel, which is returning to ABC next month with 10 new episodes. One imagines Tom Shales is not very happy.
- Stephen A. Smith: The former Philadelphia Inquirer columnist could lose his local and national radio hosting gigs on ESPN Radio. According to Neil Best of Newsday, Smith, whose contract is up, is having his role at ESPN “reassessed.” While the likelihood is that he will remain with the network, he could have his airtime reduced to working only as an NBA analyst.
