NBC is stealing CBS’ thunder.
NBC and Strikeforce have partnered to create a “weekly mixed martial arts cage fight series” on Saturday nights starting this April. Strikeforce Saturday will air at 2:00 AM, following Poker After Dark. The half-hour long show will premiere on April 13.
Strikeforce Saturday is being billed by NBC as the “[f]irst series of its kind to air on a major broadcast network.” NBC’s show will premiere more than a month before CBS begins its four-week run of EliteXC coverage.
Even with all of the talk that MMA is on the rise, it is surprising how quickly the sport is becoming mainstream. By this summer, Mixed Martial Arts fans will be able to watch fights on CBS and NBC — arguably the two most prestigious broadcast networks — on the same night.
