College softball and baseball topped a light Monday in sports television on June 3.
Monday’s Texas-Stanford Women’s College World Series game averaged 1.12 million viewers on ESPN, down 15% from Florida State-Tennessee last year (1.32M), but still the top sports audience of the day. The WCWS delivered two of the day’s top three, with Florida’s upset of Oklahoma averaging 855,000 earlier in the day — up 1% from Oklahoma-Stanford in an earlier window last year (844K).
Placing second for the day, a North Carolina-LSU college baseball regional drew 964,000 on ESPN2 — the most-watched baseball regional game on record, topping the previous high of 764,000 for the same matchup on Saturday. The Oklahoma-UConn game that followed averaged 547,000 on ESPN.
The full, four-day baseball regionals averaged 308,000 viewers, up 16% from last year, up 59% from two years ago, and the highest on record.
Outside of softball and baseball, French Open coverage topped out at 308,000 for Alexander Zverev’s win over Holger Rune. Novak Djokovic’s costly win over Francisco Cerundolo — in which Djokovic suffered a meniscus tear that caused him to withdraw afterward — drew 299,000.
In professional baseball, a Giants-Diamondbacks game averaged 217,000 across FS1 (186K) and Fox Deportes (31K), while MLB Network chipped in 172,000 for a regional window earlier in the night.
