The College World Series pales in comparison to the NCAA Tournament or Bowl Championship Series, but this year’s edition finished as the most viewed ever on the ESPN family of networks.
ESPN averaged a 1.1 cable rating with 1.4 million viewers for nine games, up 22% and 26%, respectively, from a 0.9 with 1.2 million viewers for five games last year. The deciding Game 3 of the Fresno State/Georgia series drew a 2.0 cable rating on Wednesday night, making it the second highest rated college baseball game ever on the network.
ESPN2 saw less impressive increases. Seven telecasts averaged a 0.8 cable rating with 988,000 viewers, flat in ratings and up 3% in total viewers.
