With the winless Saints facing a non-marquee opponent, NBC hit a season-low for “Sunday Night Football.”
The Week 5 edition of “Sunday Night Football,” pitting the Chargers against the Saints, drew an 11.7 overnight rating on NBC — down 16% from Packers/Falcons last year (14.0), but even with Eagles/49ers in 2010 (11.7).
The 11.7 overnight is easily the lowest of the season for the NFL on NBC, falling well below the previous low of 13.9 for Lions/49ers in Week 2.
Only three NBC telecasts all of last season drew a lower overnight than Sunday’s game.
Not only did “SNF” trail the NFL national window on CBS (15.7), but the telecast also finished behind the singleheader window on FOX (12.5).
Still, as expected, the telecast topped Major League Baseball playoff coverage on TBS and TNT (3.3 for Yankees/Orioles Game 1, 0.9 for Reds/Giants Game 2).
