- ESPN plans to go all out for coverage of the last Major League Baseball game at Yankee Stadium this Sunday. ESPN itself will provide seven hours of pregame coverage, including four hours worth of SportsCenter Specials and the documentary Yankee Stadium: Baseball?s Cathedral. Meanwhile, ESPN2 will air pregame ceremonies at 7 PM, and ESPN Classic will air 20 consecutive hours of events that aired at Yankee Stadium. Baseball Tonight will be on-site from Yankee Stadium, and Yogi Berra and Billy Crystal are among the guests who will appear during the actual game telecast.
- NBC has released its flexible schedule for the upcoming 2008-09 NHL season. Among the teams that could possibly make an appearance on the network are the Carolina Hurricanes (Feb. 22), Phoenix Coyotes (Mar. 8), Los Angeles Kings (Mar. 22), Florida Panthers (Apr. 5) and Minnesota Wild (Apr. 5). Of the flexible schedule dates, the Pittsburgh Penguins are scheduled six times, the Detroit Red Wings five, and the New York Rangers four. Teams can make a maximum of four appearances per season on NBC.
- The 2008 MLB Playoffs begin on Wednesday, October 1, with TBS/TNT airing the entire Division Series for the second straight year, as well as the ALCS. FOX will air the NLCS, with MLB curiously scheduling a potential Game 7 in that series on a Saturday night. The World Series will begin on Wednesday, October 22, with a Game 7 set for Thursday, October 30.
