After a summer of plummeting ratings for televised golf, the Ryder Cup managed to finally buck the trend.
NBC drew a 3.3/7 overnight rating for coverage of the Ryder Cup on Sunday afternoon, up 22% from a 2.7 for Sunday coverage of the 2006 Ryder Cup, which aired in an early morning timeslot. The 3.3 marks a 3% decline from the 3.4 for Sunday coverage of the 2004 Ryder Cup, which aired in the afternoon.
The 3.3 rating was the second-highest of the weekend for a non-NFL sporting event on broadcast, behind an ABC college football game. The Ryder Cup beat NASCAR on ABC comfortably head-to-head on Sunday.
On Saturday, coverage of the Ryder Cup drew a 2.8/7 overnight, down 13% from a 3.2 in 2006, and down 28% from a 3.9 in ’04.
